After installing Stonefield Query on a network server, how do I install it on a workstation?

A setup program called WSSetup.exe in the Stonefield Query program directory will take care of that for you. On the workstation, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the program directory on the server, then double-click WSSetup.exe and follow the prompts to install it on the workstation.

Tell Stonefield Query about that server by filling in the Proxy Server settings in the Options dialog.

Can I use Stonefield Query on a 64-bit version of Windows?

Although it's a 32-bit application, Stonefield Query works just fine on 64-bit versions of Windows.

One known issue with Windows, however, is that 32-bit applications can access 32-bit system DSNs, 32-bit user DSNs, and 64-bit user DSNs, but not 64-bit system DSNs. Since the default ODBC Administrator is the 64-bit version (you can run the 32-bit version from the SysWoW64 subdirectory of the Windows folder if necessary), any system DSNs you create aren't visible to Stonefield Query. So, either create user DSNs rather than system DSNs or use the 32-bit ODBC Administrator to create your DSNs.

When I try to install Stonefield Query, I get "Error 1327: invalid drive."

This is usually caused by an invalid entry in your Registry. Use RegEdit to check the values of the following Registry keys (you may have to get a technical support person to do this if you haven't used RegEdit before). One or more of them may contain an invalid drive letter.

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

When I ran Stonefield Query the first time, I entered the location of where Stonefield Query stores its data files. However, now I want to use a different folder (it was installed on a local workstation, now I want it on a server so all users can share reports). How do I do that?

Reports are shared by specifying a common location for where Stonefield Query stores its own data files. The first time you run Stonefield Query, it asks where you want to store its data files. If you choose a local directory (the default is the directory Stonefield Query is installed in), you can't share reports. Do I need to have Sage 300 installed to run Stonefield Query?

No, you just need to have access to the Sage 300 data somewhere on your network.

When I select a data source in the Manage Databases dialog and test it, I get a "That does not appear to be the correct database for this application" error.

This error can be caused by one of two things:

  • The data source is not for an Sage 300 database.

  • The data source is supposed to be for an Sage 300 database but doesn't have the default database set to an Sage 300 database.

Do I need the ODBC driver setup before I install Stonefield Query?

Not before you install Stonefield Query, but you will before you run it. When you run Stonefield Query the first time, it will display the Setup dialog, which allows you to choose which ODBC data sources you want to query on.
