After installing Stonefield Query on a network server, how do I install it on a workstation?

A setup program called WSSetup.exe in the Stonefield Query program directory will take care of that for you. On the workstation, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the program directory on the server, then double-click WSSetup.exe and follow the prompts to install it on the workstation.

I use a proxy server to access the Internet. How can I get online activation and maintenance renewal to work with my proxy server?

Tell Stonefield Query about that server by filling in the Proxy Server settings in the Options dialog.

Can I use Stonefield Query on a 64-bit version of Windows?

Although it's a 32-bit application, Stonefield Query works just fine on 64-bit versions of Windows.

When I try to install Stonefield Query, I get "Error 1327: invalid drive."

This is usually caused by an invalid entry in your Registry. Use RegEdit to check the values of the following Registry keys (you may have to get a technical support person to do this if you haven't used RegEdit before). One or more of them may contain an invalid drive letter.

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

When I ran Stonefield Query the first time, I entered the location of where Stonefield Query stores its data files. However, now I want to use a different folder (it was installed on a local workstation, now I want it on a server so all users can share reports). How do I do that?

Reports are shared by specifying a common location for where Stonefield Query stores its own data files. The first time you run Stonefield Query, it asks where you want to store its data files. If you choose a local directory (the default is the directory Stonefield Query is installed in), you can't share reports. To change that location, see the Changing the Location for Reports help topic.

Do I need to have ALERE installed on my system to run Stonefield Query?

No. However, you do need access to the server where the ALERE installation is located and access to the databases you want to report on.

** How do I setup an ODBC datasource to use in the "Specify ODBC Connection Information" screen so that I can create reports for my ALERE SQL database?**

For instructions on how to setup an ODBC data source please see the "How To->Creating an ODBC Data Source" topic.

** How do I connect to my database using "Integrated Windows Authentication" in the "Specify ODBC Connection Information" screen?**

To do this you simply need to leave the username and password both blank and then click OK.

How do I ignore an ALERE SQL database that is defined in ALERE but that I do not want to report on or do not know the SQL username and password for?

You can stop Stonefield Query from asking for connection parameters for a particular ALERE SQL database by enabling the "I do not want to report on this ALERE Company" checkbox on the "Specify ODBC Connection Information" screen as shown below, then clicking OK on that screen.

Doing this adds a "NoPrompt=Y" entry to the Data.ini file in your Stonefield Query Data directory in a section that has the same name as the ALERE Company.

If you want to be able to report on this ALERE SQL database in the future then simply remove this "NoPrompt=Y" entry from the Data.ini file then restart Stonefield Query.

You will then be asked for connection parameters for this ALERE Company once again.
